For a long time the provinces of Aquitaine were in hibernation. Today Perigord is still defined by it's agriculture (tobacco, nuts, truffle pate, poultry, fruit-growing and animal breeding). The unique history and culture of this region enthuses more and more people. The mostly untouched and very delightful scenery, the undisturbed peace and quiet, far from any industry offers people from the congested urban areas of western Europe the ideal location for a holiday or retiral home.

Take your time to discover this idyllic region.

The Périgord Area

The Dordogne valley is the cradle of mankind in Europe, the Cro-Magnon-Man lived there around 40,000 BC. Romanisation took place through Caesar and Augustus, and towns like Périgueux and Bordeaux arose. Périgord reached its cultural heights in the 11th and 12th centuries: the unique romanic architecture, the art of the goldsmiths in Limoges and the troubadour lyric verses prove this. During The Hundred Years' War the Dordogne valley was the border between England and France - the theatre of war. 1,000 castles and palaces, unparalleled in Europe, along the Dordogne and her tributaries are evidence of the political weight of this region in the Middle Ages.
